This volume, which has now been updated, contains the most detailed historic information on New Zealand available in one place and the story of its creation is explained below. Volume I covering the Auckland district is also now available.

New Zealand Historic Sites has been researched over many years and attempts to document every significant historic location in the country. This includes churches, Government buildings, grand houses, country homesteads, Maori meeting houses, industrial sites, settlers cottages, wayside markers, battlefield sites, missions and many more. These are all treated in great detail to create an intricate and inter connected portrait of the country's historic locations. The second volume covers the lower part of the North Island including Hawke's Bay, National Park, Taranaki, Manawatu, Wairarapa and the capital Wellington, whilst like Volume I (which also has a history of the country) it contains many iconic photographs. The book brings together hitherto unconnected regional or specific historic works into one volume, and takes its place with those other historians of New Zealand: Pember Reeves, Cowan, Sinclair, Pocock, King and Belich. Each historic site is covered in a separate and easy to follow chronological and geographical section, which will provide the reader with an exhaustive understanding of their history and location, but in the context of the national history. Indeed most of the sites have been visited by the author often whilst camping in a tent or tramping through the bush.

New Zealand Historic Sites will provide a definitive work on the subject, and provides an alternative to other guides that concentrate on just major attractions and adrenalin filled experiences for which the country is famed. It will appeal to those residing in New Zealand such as local historians, trampers and travellers, libraries and universities, and Maori tangata whenua with a wide range of meeting houses (wharenui) being detailed, whilst in Britain, America, Australia, the Far East (including Japan) and elsewhere it will appear to tourists who want to know more about the real New Zealand, visitors who are interested in Maori and Colonial history, students of missionary activity, and libraries and universities across the world. The next two volumes covering the South Island divided between Christchurch and Dunedin are researched and just need to be edited.

The author has been publishing books for over ten years and these include fictions The Wizards of Wight and Four Idols of Destiny (about an exploring professor), and historic non-fiction The Founders of Soccer, Arthur Pember's Great Adventures (the first F.A. president), The Real Colin Blythe (cricket) and London Churches and Olde Celebrities a detailed series like the New Zealand work - of which two volumes have already appeared. The author currently lives in England but visited New Zealand several times and lived in Christchurch during the recent devastating earthquake, and thus his writing has both an external and internal perspective of the country. In the words of Pember Reeves the M.P. and High Commissioner who lived in England and in the colony - "I have lived in New Zealand, have studied it from end to end, and have had to do with its affairs, it is my country!"

*** Volume I was originally at a reduced price, but the current price of Volume II - Wellington reflects the large amount of research undertaken, and the collection of over 150 high definition iconic photographs which support the text.
